Umayam is a graduate student at the Monterey Institute of International Studies and a research assistant at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies. She is the founder and chief writer for Bombshelltoe, a blog exploring the intersection of nuclear policy and pop culture. Her blog won first prize in the US State Department’s Innovation in Arms Control Challenge. Now based in Washington, DC, she previously studied Chinese nuclear policy in Beijing. Umayam's column is an extension of the Bulletin's "Voices of Tomorrow" feature, which showcases high school, undergraduate, and graduate students' essays and multimedia features on nuclear weapons, nuclear energy, climate change, biosecurity, or emerging technologies.
